A republic since 1964, Zambia was formerly known as Northern Rhodesia and formed part of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. This landlocked country in Southern Africa has as its neighbours the Democratic Republic of Congo to the North, Tanzania and Malawi to the East, Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Malawi to the South and Angola to the West.
