Republic of Togo

Explore one of Africa’s smallest countries with its friendly, smiling people. However, there is nothing small about what the people and country have to offer the visitor.

Togo is a thin strip of land, bordering Ghana in the West, Benin in the East, Burkina Faso in the North and with a narrow coastline on the Gulf of Guinea in the South. As Togoland, it was first colonised by Germany. This colonisation was ended in the First World War by an Anglo-French force. In 1960, French Togoland became the Republic of Togo.

Lomé on the Gulf of Guinea is the capital and largest city, with a population of 1,593,000.

The Republic of Togo (République Togolaise) has become one of the most popular holiday destinations in Africa.
